The Empordà, to the north of Barcelona, is more than a territory, it is a way of life. It’s a dimension that if it catches your eye, it won’t let you go. A land of changing landscapes, wind, sun, colours and sensations. Land of people who live knowing they are lucky to inhabit such a special place.
In its amazing landscapes that remind of Italian Tuscany, medieval villages and gastronomy stand out. In the villages, time seems to have stopped. The stones and flowers, the silence of the lived history, remain waiting for visitors. The gastronomy, rich in products with denomination of origin, has found its expression in the creativity of chefs known worldwide as the Roca brothers (3 Michelin stars) or Ferran Adriá (El Bulli). A total of 19 Michelin stars are concentrated in 15 restaurants that award this territory the gold medal of gastronomy.
An ebike route emerges as the best possibility to explore this discovery. Between fields of wheat and rapeseed, crossing by medieval villages, we cross the beautiful landscapes of the Empordà. We cross the flooded rice fields in spring and stop at a traditional artisan mill to learn how rice is produced in the area. At the end, in a cabin in the middle of nature, a master rice maker prepares a typical rice dish of the area. An authentic local experience.
To enjoy the Costa Brava in a different way is another of our proposals. Hand in hand with a local NGO and within the framework of a European project, the groups that visit us can contribute with their grain of sand to the sustainability of the planet. In a protected natural park that is a passage area of migratory birds, guided by expert biologists, we carry out the planting of native plant species that improve the habitat of the animals and extract the invasive species that harm it. We also build nests and insect hotels that help biodiversity. We base our work on a model of sustainable tourism for all – together we take care of the planet!
